Giovanni Morrone

Post-Doctoral Research Fellow

Capsule Bio

Giovanni Morrone received the B.Sc. and the M.Sc. degrees in Computer Engineering (summa cum laude) from the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia in 2015 and 2017, respectively. In the same university, he received the Ph.D in Industrial and Environmental Engineering (curriculum Industry 4.0) in 2021 under the supervision of Sonia Bergamaschi and Leonardo Badino, with a thesis entitled “Deep Learning Methods for Audio-Visual Speech Processing in Noisy Environments”. In his Ph.D he worked on audio-visual processing for several speech-related application (e.g., speech enhancement, speech recognition, speech inpainting) using deep learning-based systems. He did two research internships at PerVoice (Trento, Italy), working on speech recognition applications in extremely noisy environments, and at CASPR (Aalborg University, Denmark), where worked on audio-visual speech inpainting. Currently he is a post-doctoral researcher at the Department of Information Engineering Polytechnic University of Marche. He is the main developer of the AGEVOLA project, which is done in collaboration with PerVoice and Bruno Kessler Foundation (FBK).

Research Areas:

In the context of the AGEVOLA project, his research interests include speech enhancement, speech separation, and speaker diarization in real-world phone conversation scenarios, using machine/deep learning methods.
